Populating a drop-down list

Howdy! I'm new to 3dCart. :) And, this is my first post!

I've got my store layout almost the way I want it. I've added a drop-down list to the left menu for categories and can't get it to populate. I also have a category menu across the top header with only the top-level categories showing. Is it possible to have both or does this confuse things?

I originally took the manufacturer drop-down list from template 18 and tweaked it along with the manufacturer store language settings to create something that was more useful to my business. It worked beautifully. Then, I copied this, pasted it, and tweaked it to what I think is the correct category coding. It looks fine. It just won't populate.

I'm a scary user because I know just enough html basics to be dangerous! I was a typographer back in the days when it was all code driven so I can read enough html to figure out the easy stuff. But, beyond that it's trial and error.

Anyone got any ideas how to populate that drop-down list?

Hey Kath,

I don't know much about the drop down menus, but my overall thought is that you may not have created the categories, yet. Have you?

If you don't know how, you create categories and subcategories in the Category subtab of the Products tab.

I assume you are in the early design phase. If so, I'd recommend creating some dummy products (with images, descriptions, etc), categories, and subcategories first, then start playing around with different design options. That way you can get a good feel how the template looks and feels.

Thanks for your response. I am actually done with the design for the most part except for small tweaks here and there. It's very clean and simple. I have already created categories and sub-categories and loaded some actual products. The top category menu bar is populating correctly and when I click on one of those category links it lists the categories and sub-categories in the main part of the window.

Maybe I'm just missing a piece of code or have it coded incorrectly. This is the code for the left bar category drop-down list.
