Multiple Box with Advanced Options

We have a question on multiple box settings with products using advanced options. We have, for example, popcorn machine with cart. Two boxes. However, we are currently using advanced options, and, in the advanced options there is a parameter for weight. Should we now make this field blank?

I can't wait to hear some clarifications on this because the "ships by itself" *feature* never did what we expected it to do so this will be interesting.

Oh, and does anyone know where the KB or support article is on this feature? Searching expected terms comes up empty. Looking for more info than the couple of sentences in the release notes.
