Bandwidth Questions

When moving over to 3d bandwidth was examined since january of 2009. Only once (December 2009) did the old cart ever exceed 3Gb. Most other months were around 2.5Gb so the professional plan was selected because it had a 4Gb limit.

Just today the 90% warning was issued (3,446Gb) along with the notice about the extra charge that will be incurred.

Now, since moving here Google Analytics is showing a -16.87% change in visits at 3d so I'm wondering how, with less traffic, using the same images as in the old cart, the bandwidth can explode like this?

Hello,
The bandwidth usage has to do with the amount of images downloaded mainly, and so even if you have the same visitors, or less, if you happen to be using larger images your usage will be higher than before.

Could you provide your store URL, i would like to check it out...

Our usage suddenly doubled about two weeks ago and the users didn't change. Somethings wrong here. :(

Today my message says that they expect my OVERAGE to be 2.33 Gb :eek: That was my whole monthly usage under the old cart.

See if you have 3dzoom enabled. Sometimes these zoom features eat up alot of bandwidth.

Bandwidth calculations are done by reading a log file that the server creates and so the chances of it being incorrect are very low (it is 100% based on usage of your web site).

The server keeps a log of every file downloaded, viewed, etc.

If you feel that bandwidth calculations are incorrect, you can submit a support request to support @ 3dcart.com so that we can look at the logs, but, to this date, every time we do look into this, its either

A) Large images, taking lots of bandwidth
B) Spiders/Robots indexing your store, many times at your request (ie by joining a new product feed such as Google base)
C) Import/Export files being uploaded/downloaded several times each day

We've been running on 3dcart for four years. The last two weeks, the bandwidth usage has doubled. Support is looking in to it.
We haven't had a change in users or visits to support it. We only have 150 items!

Well, I am going to account this to back-to-school, but, I am definately going to have to keep an eye on it. Just cannot account for such an upsurge. :confused:

Ours skyrocketed so high due to 3dzoom. We quickly disabled that , once we noticed how much bandwidth it was using.

Did you recently begin using McAfee, Trust Guard or any other security type system? We had a similar thing happen once on our old shopping cart, and it had to do with the way they were running the daily McAfee scans.

Check your SmarterStats!

You guys need to check your SmarterStats if enabled on your account. This was happening to us months ago and it turns out there was some overseas accounts that would hit our website thousands a time a minute which just soaks up that bandwidth. I ended up having 3dcart block all IP addresses from a specific country - I had to provide them with a list for the country. Check your SmarterStats and look at how many times certain IP addresses are hitting your site like for the past day. If you see thousands of times then you have a problem like we did.
