Military Discounts

We got a request asking if we give military discounts. I was wondering what would be the best way to set this up so that we could ensure that the discounts were only given to actual military members. I could imagine using their .mil email addresses but I don't think that would be kosher for actual personal purchases.

Does anyone give military discounts and if so, how do you do it?

I believe the best way to do what you are wanting to do would be through price levels.

I realize this is an old post and you probably already have found your answer. However, this information maybe useful to newcomers...

After receiving proof of military status (I request a scan/photo of their military ID) I create a customer group that will receive the military discounts. In the admin panel, click CUSTOMERS>CUSTOMER GROUPS. Then I add a new promotion under MARKETING>PROMOTION MANAGER>ADD NEW PROMOTION. Under the ADVANCED options of the PROMOTION RULES, I add the group and set the parameters for the discount. In my opinion, it is way easier than maintaining a PRICE LEVEL 2 setup, especially if your prices change frequently.
