Sorting: Is there a way to sort by Part Number?

I would like to be able to add or replace one of the current sorts on the category pages to have a sort by Part Number. All our SKU's are designed so they would be in a certain order when displayed in our old system. I wanted to know if you can add an additional sort field. I believe I saw some people sort by Manufacture ID on their category pages.

settings>design>edit"order by"
you can use one of the extra fields. Under status give it a name.

*Download your products copy your sku column, paste in the extra field that you choise to use. upload, done.

**You can select default sort on the category level
