Customer Password Reset

In 2009, 3dcart said they would be fixing this on their next release. It is not any different than it was. I have asked so many times and always get the same answer, we have a customer password reset link...

Well you all know there is no reset link, the system simply emails the customer their password, not secure at all. A lot of people use the same passwords for various online stuff.

What I find most interesting is that when you click I forgot my password to login into this forum, 3dcart emails you a link that you click on and you change your password. Why aren't our shopping carts handled the same way? They obviously know how to do it or their own site would not do it. What is the deal

Two days ago i placed a ticket about that. I've got polite answer:

Hello Rita,

Unfortunately, there is not a way to stop the e-mail from displaying the password. However, your customers are able to change their passwords right in their "My Account" page. To reset the password on the My Account page select "Update Address". So I would suggest that you edit the email that is sent to your customers and include instructions for resetting their password when logged into their account. To edit the e-mail please go to Settings- Design-> Customer Emails ->choose Lost Password.

That is about the dumbest answer 3dcart support has given, if someone has forgotten their password, how are they supposed to login in to their My Account page and select "Update Address"? And if 3dcart can do a reset link for their own website stuff then they can do it for all of ours.

happydog, I agree that there should be a reset password link.
However 3dcart did not design this forum software. As the link below says: Powered by vBulletin® Version 3.6.3

I am getting disappointed in support. Why do they keep making these statements? Are they not well trained??


The statement Support Agent made is UNTRUE:
Settings>> General >> Store Settings : (Scroll all the way to the bottom)
Email Settings : Display Password on Emails ( Leave it unchecked if you don't want the password to show on emails)

If the e-mail will not show the password, and the customer does not get a reset link, then what is the point of the forgot password e-mail. they will still not be able to get back into their account :)

I was only pointing out that support was wrong to make that statement about not displaying the password on emails.

As for what you are saying and the thread is about, I understand it:
On My Account page, you have the "Forgot Your Password?" will send the password to the client. But the client cannot "rest" the password to a different one.
