Limit a coupon to first time customers

Anyone know a way to limit a coupon to first time customers?

The only place I see a possibility is in the section of: Promotion Rules>Discount Group. Perhaps there is a way to make a discount group of new customer?

You can require that a coupon be used by a member of a customer group, AND limit it to one use per customer. The only issue is this won't work for people signing up anonymously.

The only way a customer group would work is if you had a method to move customers that purchased over to a non-new customer group after they purchase. I'm guessing that could be done through the API, but haven't checked.

And yes, you would have to make people register for it to work, but that's necessarily a deal breaker. It's not ideal, certainly.

This is a pretty common tactic for ecommerce. I was surprised there isn't a feature already built in for it. Also surprise we have no way of creating one time use unique coupon codes.

That allows everyone to use it once. I won't only new customers to be able to use it once.

Assuming you can make the new customer group and use the one time use, it would be what you want.

Short of having another way to identify the customer than registration, it would not work for guest checkout. No way I can see it working.
