Adding a single use discount coupon

I haven't been able to find a solution to this in the forum, if there is one. I am trying to add a coupon code good for use on only ONE product for a percentage off. I can get it to be valid on only a specific item or on everything, but not just a one time use per customer code for only one item.

Is this possible? If so, how?

I believe you are right. It is not possible.
