How to control sort order in sitemap

We use the category_index.asp function to create an html sitemap for our site. Does anyone know how to control the order in which the categories appear? Category_index.asp seems to ignore the order in which our categories are sorted under products>categories

To be more clear, the categories listed in category_index.asp always appear in alphabetical order, no matter how we have them sorted under products>categories.

We are upgrading from a very old version of software and it would display the categories according to how we had them sorted.
