Hi all... putting a need out there for some help. I just got off the phone with Advanced Shipping Manager (ASM), and am quite dismayed at the fact that I am going to be forced to pay more for a plug in to do one incredibly simple thing than I pay for 3dCart itself.
I drop ship big / heavy equipment, and can not have that stuff ordered to Alaska or Hawaii (puerto rico and usvi as well). I offer free continental shipping on everything, and a lot of things that go to all 50 states. I need to be able to have the free shipping setting active on all listings, which shows the free shipping icon, and restrict said drop ship items from AK / HI for the few items that require it. That said, I got the restrictive shipping module from 3dCart, but that does not work for my needs even though I was told differently from the person who was selling it to me originally - once free shipping is toggled on, it overrides anything else that might be in place. I talked to 3dCart, and they talked about a very convoluted way of handling it through promotions or removing AK / HI / PR / USVI from the United States shipping region, which would then block me from shipping anything to them.. neither option is ok / acceptable.
I went to UserVoice and requested that there be a way to block AK / HI / PR / USVI from individual products, and it recently moved into something that 3d is interested in, but can't say when it will be available - in essence, creating a continental shipping situation, which is ecommerce 101 at this point with all of the drop shipping that is going on, and the extremely high shipping costs that exist.
This leads me to ASM, and they quote me a charge of $99 that comes from 3dCart just to allow me to install the software, and then $85 / month. This reminded me so much of Shopify in that when I looked at them, the cost of the plugins easily outstripped the cost of a shopify cart itself, and this is for just 1 plugin! I have no problem paying for plugins to add extended / unusual functionality, but more than the cart itself for one small feature that I hate to say it, but is present almost everywhere? Not interested in that. There were quite a few people who expressed interest in this functionality being included in 3dCart. I truly hope they build it in.
Anyone have any other ideas based on their experience how to keep free shipping active, and block out these states / territories? I will not do promotions, and I will not remove them from the US - I don't have the time or desire to limit my selling experience outside of what is needed. In advance, I thank you.
