Showing Loyalty Rewards Points Redemption as an Invoice Line Item

We've been making some updates to our loyalty rewards program implementation to make it simpler for our customers. We want to move away from the setup where points are redeemed by purchasing a gift certificate which is then applied to a product/order.

The only issue with this is that the points redemption does not show up as a line item on the invoice like the gift certificate code redemption would.

Has anyone else experienced this or know of a good workaround?
