Is HTML5 or Core worth it

Just found out that Braintree and Square will not work with the default store layout, and you'll need to get a HTML5 or Core design for them to work. But I would imagine that this would change many other things too, correct?

Have you tried restoring the checkout template to the original version? That's what I've done in the past for other templates (including unedited templates) and the code blocks for new features would appear.

Yes, they've been modern standards for quite a while. I recommend switching to the newest template as soon as you can. Unless you have a super-custom design, you should be able to replicate your current look and feel pretty quickly.

If there is a problem with the new template, you can request a rollback or restore to the previous one, correct?

Well I've tried several Html5 templates, and they all show the "categories" folders. Well I only have "current" and "old" categories, and don't want anyone clicking on old. How do you hide these categories?

Go to Products > Categories. Find the category and press its small gear icon on the right side. A context menu will display - select Hide. If you have advanced page caching enabled in Settings > General > Store Settings > General, then you may need to clear the cache to see your changes reflected on the front end.
