How to add available stock # to Quickview?

I am trying to get the actual stock number to show next to the Availabilty In stock field in the Quickview screen. I tried adding the [stock] in and the stock number just flashes for a milisecond and never actually sticks. Is there a way to get that stock number to show? It is one of the main reasons why I can't use this feature since many of my items are only 1 available etc.
