PayPal Payments Pro

PayPal is pushing us pretty hard to switch from Authorize.net. We already offer PayPal as a secondary payment option and I'd say that about 20% of our customers use it. No complaints.

Anyone have feedback about Payments Pro as your payment gateway?

I can't get a straight answer on if 3DCart's Virtual Terminal would work with the service - being able to just add an extra charge is a nice benefit with Authorize.net.

You can add any total you want on the virtual terminal and process it with 3D's virtual terminal for an extra charge for the customer entered in the system. If you want to use Pay Pal's virtual terminal that is an option also.

Thanks. When PayPal called I pulled a few months of statements from our current processor and checked out our rates. It looks like we have an effective rate (after all fees, divided into amount processed) of nearly 5%, which seems insane. I am now checking out CardFellow to comparison shop and it looks like we should be able to at least match the 2.2% rate we can get from PayPal.

Not sure if you use a credit card for business expenses, but if you do, PayPal is pretty attractive. They offer a debit card that pulls money from the PP account...money is available immediately after the customers pay and they also offer unlimited 1% cash back on all debit card non PIN purchases.

Since our industry is mainly a pre pay vendors with credit cards, we leverage the PP card heavily and it gets our total effective rate down in the mid 1% range most months.

That is attractive but I don't think it'd quite work for us. The lions share of our orders come in through Amazon, which holds funds for up to two weeks, so we have to float that on a credit card. And our vendor needs one CC# per invoice. Luckily the CC ends up being about 2% back.

You can get 2% with Capital One Business card. Twice as good :)

The problem we have had using "real" credit cards is getting enough of a credit limit to stay ahead of the payments. It has been a while since I expirimented but many cards limit the number of payments you can electornically send per month. We spend between 25-75k per month on the card, but like all small businesses that money comes in a few thousand a day, not in a big chunk, so we were constantly chasing money posting to the checking account (a day or two) and then posting to the card (another day or two). My Amex Platinum takes as many payments as I want to send and they post right away, but so many vendors won't take Amex it won't work.

Everyone's situation is different, PP just happens to work for us very well. The biggest problem for us is remembering to transfer money back to the checking account to pay things that require checks (like rent :))

We just moved to PayFlow (from PayPal) and received a great rate. The problem is that 3Dcart does not support saving credit card information (CIM) or tokenization. It is a request that we put into the features to 3Dcart. Hopefully they will implement this since 3Dcart and PayFlow are both great companies, I am sure they will (fingers crossed!)
