SEO Optimization

Hi all, including 3dCart Forum Moderators and Executive Staff. I am working on setting up my store, and want to request that 3d does a major overhaul and update of the 'meta tag' section when creating / editing a product. Some of this information is outdated, including recommended / allowed character counts (i.e. the allowed # of characters for the description), the fact that abstracts / keywords are actually looked at negatively by the search engines, things are displayed differently for mobile vs desktop, etc. I also wonder that if this section has been allowed to become outdated, then what other section that is important for proper display / ranking has become outdated as well.

What also would help would be a visual display of the meta section as it is created for reference. It is always good to get an indication of how things will look when being rendered by the search engines as if someone was actually looking on google or bing.

Does this need to be created in uservoice? I just think this is mission critical as things continue to evolve rapidly, and the competition for eyeballs demands that every aspect of search be optimized.

We've made some major improvements to the product editor, here is a screenshot of the SEO part in particular. Note that while yes, now you have a preview, the truth is that Google changes what it shows as far as title & description based on the query sometimes, so, its not 100% accurate, but, definitely an improvement over what's there now :)

This is part of the 8.2 update that will be rolling out in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks GonzaloGil , I appreciate your sharing that, and your reference to gal, aka wonderwoman, is not lost on me. Hopefully, the character counters have been set to the new lengths allowed / encouraged by google, and I also see keywords mentioned in the meta tags section, which according to google, is not only a no-no, but a negative. I would remove that ability from the interface. It also looks like you are cleaning up the UI a bit as you prepare to have a responsive admin panel (as scheduled on the roadmap). I can only hope that faceted search is going to be released soon as well. Keep the good stuff coming!

Love this new SEO setup you have for the products. One thing that would be nice is showing the character count while typing in the page title field. I pretty sure the old setup had this...

Hi GonzaloGil, I see that the Product screen has a Preview feature which is great, but it only works if the product is not hidden. Is there a "draft" setting somewhere so that I can build my products to be able to get a preview and not have them show up on my site? I don't see that mentioned in the Help Documentation. Right now I'm hiding new products until they are built, then I have to temporarily unhide them so I can see what they look like, and then hurry up and hide them again if any changes need to be made. I feel that I might be missing something. I'm trying to imagine how this would be if I was trying to upload products from a file. That's kinda scary! So... what am I doing wrong?
