Work Around for 1st Class Package Shipping

Would appreciate any suggestions on how to set up a viable work around for 1st Class Package Shipping. Tried in Feb to increase Ship Costs, but this is creating a problem if customers purchase multiples of same item. It also impacts total shipping costs on multiple item orders.

Just add 78 cents to your handling fee. 78 cents is the difference between a one ounce package and a one ounce letter. Since the per ounce increase for both is 17 cents the weight does not matter and the difference in prices is just the flat 78 cents.

Adding a flat amount to shipping costs creates even more problems. If a customer buys 5 of a 1 oz item then he would end up paying 3.90 additional shipping. Could be offset by discounts but been working on that spreadsheet for 3 months now-VERY CUMBERSOME AND TIME CONSUMING.

You do not add a flat amount per item.

You add the 78 cents to your handling charge on the shipping method.

Log in to your admin and go to Settings -> Shipping -> Shipping Method and look for the Markup field on your first class shipping method and change it to 78 cents (or add 78 cents to your current markup charge if you have one). The markup charge is only charged once per order.

Knew how to do the mark up but hadn't noticed the discrepancy or knew the .78 difference till I saw it here
