Need Help With Changing Images in Banner

I'm hoping that someone might be able to assist me. I'm trying to change the images that currently display on my homepage banner. I've resized and uploaded the images to the appropriate file and made what I think are the correct changes to the original slideshow file, saving the original, renaming the ammended one after switching out the image names and locations. So now do I just upload the new file and delete the old one?

I'm sure this sounds like a really stupid question but I know just enough about this stuff to really make a mess of things and before I trash my homepage I just thought I would ask.
