Is there something out there, where I can use to edit the templates? I've been able to delete certain parts of the existing html on certain templates to remove unneeded stuff, but i wish there was something to make my life easier when it came to changing the layout of a template or adding content.

hands down webstorm/phpstorm is the way to go. JetBrains Website ...It's one of the few editors/all in one solutions that I've been able to actually connect their ftp clients to the server (the certificate makes it a bit difficult for some) and their plugins/code completion/toolset is unmatched.
Workflow is as easy as connecting to the ftp, downloading the template folder i wish to work on, edit at will and right click upload.
