Lost Categories on Home Page

Ok, not sure what I did, but I was installing and previewing various themes, including the new 5 themes but now all my side links, ie, cateories, new releases etc are missing. Even when I reverted back to the original theme and selected default-modified, ghey still do not show up now.

I have them selected when I open design editor,

This sort of thing happened to me when I was previewing themes on my site. Sometimes remnants of some of the themes I looked at remained and overwrote my live site even though the template was never applied. I fixed it by deleting the website cache. If that didn't work, I went back and previewed one of the templates I had previewed before, cancelled it without installing and that would fix it. There was no rhyme or reason to it. I even talked to sales and they had no idea what I was referring to.
