PayPal Express and 3DCart Frustration

Does anyone else have a problem with PayPal Express on 3DCart? People are supposed to be able to check out as guests when passed through to PayPal, but they are being prompted to make a PayPal account. After going round and round for several days with PayPal, they told me that 3DCart has to fix it. Now after going round and round with 3DCart for several days, they say they are not allowed to make the fix per PayPal, even when I show them an email from PayPal saying that they are the ones responsible for fixing the issue.

We are stuck in the middle, with nobody at 3DCart willing to fix the problem. VERY FRUSTRATED AT THIS POINT.

Hey Mary,

Pack Secure I was always under the impression and understanding that paypal express was specifically for people that already had paypal accounts so they could truly express checkout as a paypal customer. Paypal standard however had the customer ability to checkout as a guest. Paypal advanced was suppose to bridge that gap by having the CC field attached to paypal thus allowing a checkout as guest directly in the 3dcart checkout process.

In short... I don't recall PayPal Express specifically ever having a checkout as guest option because that is not what it was intended for.

Now keep in mind that I only use standard now so this is a very light remembrance of issues my dad had with his stores and the explanation he received which also was long ago. Just hoping to throw some possible direction on the matter.

Someone else could probably shed a better light on the matter

My settings are correct. I verified this and PayPal verified this. I received the following from PayPal.

Hello Mary, I do apologize, but this is something that must be handled by 3DCart. Passing the solution_type=mark disables the ability for your customers to checkout as a guest, and will require them to pay with a PayPal account. Because it is ExpressCheckout, the only party here who can fix this issue is 3DCart as they handle the integration and calls being made to PayPal. Well heck.....most of my express checkout must be due to them having an account....no wonder no one wants to check out and I have so many abandoned carts

Hello Mary, This, unfortunately, is not a change we can make. We provide shopping cart platforms the tools and guidelines needed to setup the product for merchants to use. How they set that up, such as setting ExpressCheckout to Mark versus Sole, is at their discretion, and we do not have a way to force them to change that. Because 3DCart handles the integration and calls made to PayPal for your ExpressCheckout, they are the only ones who can make this change. If they are not willing to do so, for what ever reasons that may be, then there isn't much more that can be done. We do not posses a way to force the change as we do not have access to their code or their servers. Please let me know if you have any further questions. I'm with the cartdesigner -- PayPal Express is solely for people who have a PayPal account and are paying with funds in that account (or funded with a credit card or Pay Later payment).

How do I accept credit cards with Express Checkout using the Guest Checkout option?

• If you're using a third-party shopping cart, work with them or your developer to implement this variable.
• As long as SOLUTIONTYPE=Sole is passed in the SetExpressCheckout API, guest checkout will be enabled.
• For SOLUTIONTYPE=Sole to work, you must have PayPal Account Optional set to On within the PayPal account settings.
• Many third-party carts provide an Enable Guest Checkout option in the Administration view of their Express Checkout module.

Birdsafe don't side with me on this one...lol. My thought was purely "maybe.. I think?". And Toobusy clarified that I was incorrect with the paypal settings description for paypal express.

Now with that said. Pack Secure Hopefully it won't be an ongoing stalemate between 3dcart and PayPal

Pack Secure is there a downside to just going with the PayPal pro that gives customers that option?

Pack Secure This is from the PayPal site and will pose a problem with 3dcart, since the customer has to come back to the site to finalize the order:

Please note that if both the "auto return" and "account optional" features are turned on, customers who don't log in to PayPal can choose to go back to your website after checkout, but aren’t returned automatically.

If they don't come back to the site, they will not finalize the order. Not sure what happens then!

If you only have PayPal as a checkout method, you need to add the PayPal Standard module as well as the PayPal Express one. That should solve your problem. In Payment Methods, click Add New, scroll all the way to the bottom in the "Payment Method" drop-down and select "PayPal Payments Standard" from the "Alternative Payments" section.

If you have another payment method in addition to the PayPal one, there is no need to do this. People can already pay with a regular credit card if you have activated a "real" payment processor.

Maybe that's why I have people who do not have paypal accounts able to "guest" checkout with a credit card because I have both express and Standard as payment methods. I just know I've not had a significant number of complaints about it. @Pack Secure have you tried that to see if it would resolve the issue?

@Scott I appreciate that thought, but that did not fix the problem I have not heard from 3DCart in almost a week. They have gotten so bad with follow up.
